Blitz Megaplex Pacific Place

ILATAAJ was invited by Blitz Megaplex to submit a proposal to redesign their cinema in Pacific Place, located in Sudirman CBD. The existing cinema was originally designed by Andra Matin which included the Argentinian Steakhouse, Brasas. We were commissioned to complete the project from design to completion in 6 months.

The plan was to relocate the restaurant and reorganise the cinema’s public areas. Blitz had their own team of in-house Architects, and was in charge of the layouts. So the scope of the designer was clearly defined to just surfaces.

This limitation inspired us to overlay a grid on top of the existing surfaces, which worked like pixels on computer screen, where each cell has its specific color value. The new design was imagined as a virus infecting the existing with gradient transitions. We intentionally limit the use of colours to the three available in the Blitz logo; a strategy in line with one of our agendas in retail spaces, Immersive Branding Environment.

We have uploaded this video to demonstrate the use of Grasshopper, generative modeling for Rhino, in designing one of the features, a 20 meters wall behind the Concession desks. This wall serves as a backdrop facing the cinema entrance. We felt that a strong graphical effect was needed to attract passersby.
